Ben Engel’s play, Domitilla, recreates encounters between Jewish and Roman leaders in 95 CE, when four Talmud rabbis went to Rome on a diplomatic mission.  Working both sides is Domitilla, a member of the Imperial family living an openly Jewish life in Rome, together with her husband Flavius Clemens.  These Roman aristocrats adhered to Judaism during the violent and unstable reign of their relative, the Emperor Domitian.  The play also continues the story of Rabbi Joshua ben Hananiah, which Ben began to tell in his 2016 play, Rabbi of the Stars.
